Below is the anticipated work schedule and associated lane closures for work on the SR 26 Mainline Improvement Project along with Alternate Route directions and maps for the SR 26 corridor for those of you who may not be familiar with the area.
As a reminder, beginning October 1, 2015, lane closures will be allowed 7 days a week between the hours of 9:00AM and 6:00AM. Lane closures will not be permitted between the hours of 6:00AM – 9:00AM.
Travel times to and from your destination may be quicker if you use one of the SR 26 Alternate Routes that were constructed prior to the start of the SR 26 Mainline Construction Project. The recently reconstructed roadways include:
• Burbage Road, from SR 17 to Windmill Drive
• Windmill Drive to SR 26 to Central Avenue
• Central Avenue, from Windmill Drive to Beaver Dam Road
• Beaver Dam Road, from Central Avenue to Muddy Neck Road
Below is an outline of the anticipated construction schedule and associated lane closures for work on the SR 26 Mainline Improvement Project during the next week.
Monday, September 28, 2015 through Saturday, October 3, 2015
Begin work on sewer force main relocation at West Avenue and SR 26. West Avenue, south of SR 26 will be closed at SR 26 for approximately six (5) weeks continuously. Motorists should
anticipate a new traffic pattern through the work zone on SR 26 for approximately six (5) weeks and are advised to follow the posted alternate routes and detour routes.
Continue milling and paving activities between Irons Lane and Powell Farm Road. Motorists should anticipate eastbound or westbound lane closures on Route 26 between Irons Lane and
Powell Farm Road with traffic alternating through the work zone utilizing a flagging operation by construction personnel from 09:00AM to 9:00PM.
Continue milling and paving activities on Irons Lane at Route 26. Motorists should anticipate northbound or southbound lane closures on Irons Lane at Route 26 with traffic alternating
through the work zone and the intersection utilizing a flagging operation by construction personnel from 09:00AM to 9:00PM.
Continue placing concrete for new side walk between Old School Lane and Grants Avenue. Motorists should anticipate eastbound and westbound lane shifts on Route 26 between Old
School Lane and Grants Avenue with both travel lanes getting through the work zone from 7:00AM to 7:00PM.
Continue placing concrete for new curb and gutter and new sidewalk between Club House Road and Old Mill Road. Motorists should anticipate eastbound and westbound lane shifts on Route 26 between Club House Road and Old Mill Road with both travel lanes getting through the work zone from 7:00AM to 7:00PM.
Continue installation of the new Sussex County Sewer line between Roxana Road and Bethany Crest. Motorists should anticipate eastbound and westbound lane shifts on Route 26 between Roxana Road and Bethany Crest with both travel lanes getting through the work zone from 7:00AM to 7:00PM.
Continue grading for new curb between West Avenue and the Assawoman Canal. Motorists should anticipate eastbound and westbound lane shifts or lane closures on Route 26 between Old
School Lane and Woodland Avenue with both travel lanes getting through the work zone utilizing a flagging operation by construction personnel from 07:00AM to 5:00PM.
Continue placing electrical conduit and associated junction wells for new ITS system at various locations along Route 26. No lane closures are anticipated for this construction activity.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) will suspend planned lane closures on Delaware’s major roadways beginning at noon on Friday, September 4 and ending at midnight on Monday, September 7.
As a reminder, beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2015, daily lane closures will resume at 9:00AM on the SR 26 Mainline Improvement Project

Motorists should anticipate eastbound or westbound lane closures on Route 26 between Whites Neck Road and
Irons Lane with traffic alternating through the work zone utilizing a flagging operation by construction personnel from 09:00AM to 7:00PM.
Continue placing concrete for new curb and side walk between Old School Lane and Woodland Avenue.
Motorists should anticipate eastbound and westbound lane shifts on Route 26 between Old School Lane and Woodland Avenue with both travel lanes getting through the work zone
from 9:00AM to 7:00PM.
Continue placing electrical conduit and associated junction wells for new ITS system at various locations along Route 26.
No lane closures are anticipated for this construction activity.
Night Shift – Tuesday, September 8, 2015 through Thursday, September 10, 2015
Continue the installation of drainage pipes and associated drainage inlets at Roxana Road.
Motorists should anticipate a westbound lane closure on Route 26 at Roxana Road with traffic alternating through the work zone and intersection utilizing a flagging operation by law
enforcement and construction personnel from 09:00PM to 8:00AM.
Tidewater Utilities Inc. – Tuesday, September 8, 2015 through Thursday, September 10, 2015
Continue the installation of new 16 inch water main between Whites Neck Road and Roxana Road.
Motorists should anticipate westbound lane closures on Route 26 between Whites Neck Road and Roxana Road with traffic alternating through the work zone utilizing a flagging operation by construction personnel from 09:00PM to 8:00AM.
